Camping at Kings Canyon

Friday-Monday, July 2-5

Please join us as a group of good and new friends go camping in Kings Canyon Nat. Park July 4th weekend.  Kings Canyon has gorgeous scenery from mountain ridges to river canyons.  We'll enjoy some great views during this weekend.

We'll do one fairly easy hike each day in the Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon Nat. Park.

  • One hike will be past some giant sequoias to an overlook of a mountain lake.

  • The other will be along a ridge with spectacular views of Kings Canyon all along the hike.

One evening we'll have dinner a couple miles from our campground at a spot with a terrific 360-degree view of Kings Canyon and the surrounding area.  The other evening we'll have a leisurely dinner in our campsite, beginning again with Champagne Hors D'oeuvres.

We'll be camping in Princess Campground, in a pretty, wooded setting with a nice mix of shade trees.  We have eleven contiguous campsites reserved, giving us a whole section of the campground to ourselves.  The meadow in the photo to the right is adjacent to our campground.  Hot showers are available about five miles away, in Grant Grove.

All of the meals from dinner Friday (in case you arrive by then) through breakfast Monday will be included.  Everyone will be asked to help provide one meal, including shopping, cooking and cleaning up.  You’ll be able to relax and be served by others for the rest of the meals during the weekend.

If you’d like, feel free to let me know if you have a preference as to which meal you help prepare.  I won’t be able to meet everyone’s requests, especially those asking for an early meal, but I'm happy to try as best I can.

If you'd like to join us, please let me know when you sign up if you won't be staying for the whole weekend, Friday night through Monday morning.  I'll give first priority to those joining us for the full weekend if the trip fills up, to avoid some of the spots on the trip only being partially used over the weekend.  Many of us will be going up Friday morning; feel free to join us then if you'd like!

The cost of the trip is $60 per person, including the campsite fees, firewood, common supplies and all of the wine and beer for the weekend.  (Our 11 campsites were more expensive than a typical group site.)  We are permitted two tents per site, so we'll be keeping the group to 25-30 people.  To sign up for this trip, please send your check to me.  (As in the past, I'll need your check to hold your spot.)

As usual, kids beyond the crying stage are welcome to join us, and I expect a couple will be on the trip.  To avoid possible disturbances, please plan to make other arrangements for babies and pets...thanks!  (Note that as usual, the trip fee for anyone deciding to cancel will become an appreciated donation to the weekend's wine fund.)

Let me know if you have any questions about the trip.

I think this will be a very fun weekend!  I hope you’ll come along!
