Camping along Rock Creek Lake
in the Eastern Sierras

Labor Day Weekend
Friday-Monday, September 1-4

Rock Creek flows down the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains into its namesake lake.  Rock Creek Lake is a very pretty high-mountain lake, about a quarter-mile across and just below the tree line.  The lake is surrounded by high-elevation trees, with mountain ridges as a backdrop.  The main campground is on one side of the lake, with a single group site on the opposite side...that's where we're booked.  The group campsite is in a pretty setting right on the shore of the lake.

We have our site booked to arrive Friday, Sept. 1, and check out after breakfast on Monday, Sept. 4.  Our campsite has flush toilets and there are hot showers nearby.  This time of year the days are likely to be sunny and in the 70s.  The nights will be cool and the moon will be approaching full.  The drive will only take about 4 1/2 hours, but because we're getting up into the High Sierras, I hope this will be a nice adventure into nature.

As usual, kids beyond the crying in the night stage are definitely welcome.  There is a rustic resort nearby which looks like it would be comfortable for families with little ones.  I can give you those details if you'd like.  To avoid possible nuisances in the campsite, will you please make alternative plans for any pets...thanks.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the weekend.

Each person will be asked to help provide one meal, and will be served by the group for the rest of the meals on the trip, Friday dinner through Monday breakfast.  The cost of the trip is $60 per person, which will cover the campsite fee, our firewood, common supplies and all of the wine and beer for the weekend.  I'll close sign-ups on Saturday, August 19 in order to give people time to plan their meal.  As in the past the trip fee is non-refundable if you decide later to bail.

Camping next to this high mountain lake
and hiking in the area will be a scenic treat.

I hope you can join us!
