Apple Cranberry Pastry w Cinnamon

2 cups dried or frozen cranberries

4 Granny Smith apples

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon nutmeg

8 oz brown sugar

8 oz flour

9 tablespoons butter, cut in small pieces

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 quart vanilla ice cream

Simmer the cranberries until they begin to soften, perhaps 10-12 minutes, and then cool. Peel and core apples, and cut them into half-inch pieces. Mix apples and cranberries with the cinnamon and nutmeg. Butter small square baking dish and fill with mix.

Heat oven to 400 F degrees. In a bowl mix sugar, flour, butter and salt until the mix has consistency of coarse meal. Sprinkle mix over apples in the baking dish. Bake until topping is golden brown and apples get tender, about 25-30 minutes.

Serve with ice cream.
